In Southern California ecosystems, understanding changes in hydrologic regimes under future climate scenarios and the impact of fire is key to developing effective management strategies. This project, supported by the CA LCC, is developing data, projections, and visualization tools to assist in the climate-smart management of water in chaparral dominated ecosystems of Southern California.
The US Forest Service is currently undertaking an ecosystem services assessment of the Santa Clara River Watershed as well as a Socio-Economic Vulnerability Assessment encompassing the four southern National Forests. This project will focus specifically on the water provision component of these assessments and will work with partners to develop tools to inform decision-making and the future management of resources. The guidance will be available on the Climate Commons to assist natural resource managers in visualizing relevant information and identifying priority locations for management, restoration, or acquisition of lands in the watershed.
This webinar will provide background on the current USFS work on ecosystem services, details on this new project, and include a question and answer session where we are seeking input from participants. This discussion will provide participants the opportunity to guide the project’s development by identifying areas of management interest for hydrology and provide input on tools produced by the project.
